Chargeable Weight
Air freight is priced on whichever is greater: the actual gross weight of the shipment or its volumetric, also called dimensional, weight. Volumetric weight is calculated from the length, width and height of the package.
Bulky but light cargo — such as foam packaging, furniture and some machinery parts — can therefore be charged according to its volumetric weight rather than its physical weight.
Origin
